Defense of the Master's Thesis titled "Biological Energy of Geometric Shapes in Architecture."
Written by hindOn Wednesday, November 27, 2024, the Master's thesis defense for the researcher (Batool Adnan Abdulamir) took place, titled "Biological Energy of Geometric Shapes in Architecture." The thesis focused on the concept of energy and its relationship with architectural form, examining both the positive and negative effects on humans. The thesis aimed to build a comprehensive knowledge model of biological energy in architecture and its applications to mosque design.
The study addressed the analysis of factors affecting human bio-balance within architectural spaces, which are influenced by the waves encountered within any architectural space, including natural, industrial, and waves produced by architectural design elements such as shapes, colors, proportions, and materials. The goal was to identify the principles for dealing with architectural space-forming elements from the perspective of bioenergy science.
The thesis concluded that each geometric shape has its own specific energy, which varies from shape to shape and is used to achieve balance in the electromagnetic fields of space. The principles of form-making are based on establishing a set of geometric relationships between different angles to determine specific types of energy.
The discussion committee consisted of the following esteemed professors:
- Prof. Dr. Mustafa Khudhir Abadi ........ (Chair)
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Zainab Hussein Raouf ........ (Member)
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Ashwaq Fadil Mukhayber ........ (Member)

Discussion of the Doctoral Dissertation Titled: "Generativity in Architecture: A Study of the Concept of Generativity and Reproduction as a Strategy for Organizing Architectural Practice
Written by hindDiscussion of the Doctoral Dissertation Titled:
"Generativity in Architecture: A Study of the Concept of Generativity and Reproduction as a Strategy for Organizing Architectural Practice"
On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the doctoral dissertation of researcher Noura Nassif Jassim, titled "Generativity in Architecture: A Study of the Concept of Generativity and Reproduction as a Strategy for Organizing Architectural Practice," was discussed.
The dissertation focused on exploring generativity and reproduction as strategies to organize architectural practice and examined how these concepts can renew and advance architectural methodologies. The research originated from the vital role architecture plays in shaping the built environment, which in turn influences societal interactions. The study identified a research gap related to the lack of clear knowledge about generativity as an ideal strategic approach for architectural production, innovation, and the preservation of local cultural identity within architectural practice.
The research analyzed the relationship between generativity, social practice, and influential theories, as well as the interaction between micro, meso, and macro levels of architectural practice. The goal was to bridge this knowledge gap to improve the quality and consistency of architectural outputs and enhance the overall efficiency of the architectural design process. The study underscored the potential of generativity to provide a comprehensive roadmap for architectural practice.
The dissertation revealed the influence of generativity on architectural work, thought, and existence, linking it to various stages of architectural practice. The key methodologies of generativity outlined include:
- Generativity of Architect's Perceptions
- Material Embodiment of Ideas and Relationships
- Patterning, Molding, and Prototyping
- Cultural Generativity
The study recommended adopting generative strategies as a fundamental methodology in architectural practice to achieve excellence in design, execution, and project management. It also proposed developing organizational frameworks to integrate generativity within architectural firms and institutions, and enhancing research and education on generative applications in architecture.
The Discussion Committee:
- Prof. Dr. Ali Mohsen Jaafar … (Chair)
- Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hashem Hameed … (Member)
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdul Hussein Abdul Ali Al-Askari … (Member)
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Sajida Kazem Alawi … (Member)
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Barizat Qasim Hussein … (Member)
- Prof. Dr. Basim Hassan Hashem … (Supervisor)
