Architectural Engineering Department Participation in the Scientific Research Symposium in Architecture and Planning at King Saud University

research titled “Adaptive Flexibility of City’s Complex Patterns” in addition to (Lecturer Shahad Abdel
Abbas Hamoudi) with her research titled “The Morphologically Impact of Digital Architecture on the
Strategic Value of the Urban Fabric Using Digital Analysis Methodology - The New Central Bank of Iraq “
Case Study”.
Both researches were supervised by (Prof. Dr. Wahda Shukur Al-Hankawi) one of the faculty member in
the architecture department.
The Scientific Research Symposium in Architecture and Planning titled “Qualitative Research in Light of
the National Vision 2030,” which was held in the College of Architecture and Planning at King Saud
University on the 4th and 5th Rajab 1445 (Hijri Calendar), dated as the 15th—16 of January 2024.
The symposium presented peer-reviewed scientific research on several topics related to architecture
and planning.

First Semester Final Exams - First Round Of The Academic Year 2023-2024

Dr. Ibrahim Jawad Kadhim with the presence of the both administrative and scientific assistants
in the Department of Architectural Engineering, the professors visited the exam halls where
they were briefed on the students’ performance in the exams and the contents of the exam
questions. .

In the presence of the Head of the Architectural Engineering Department (Professor Dr. Ibrahim Jawad
Kadhim), the Scientific Assistant (Assistant Professor Dr. Mufid Ihsan Al-Shouk), and with the efforts of
the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, a qualitative lecture was delivered on
Thursday 14 December 2023. The lecture was delivered by (Professor Dr. Khaled Hantoush) at the
College of Arts - Department of Sociology - University of Baghdad, entitled (Drug Addiction, the World of
Pink Death) and the Drugs' negative impact on society
The lecture included highlighting several topics, the most important of which is a comprehensive
explanation of the reasons that drive young people to resort to drug abuse and how to overcome those
reasons, as well as a detailed explanation of the types of drugs and their dangers, how to deal with
addicted people, treatment methods in addition to psychological rehabilitation.
The lecturer suggested methods of using the architectural designs to build rehabilitation centers and
hospitals with green spaces that help in overcoming the psychological pressures that young people
suffer from, whether they are in the stage of recovery from addiction or before, which may help
eliminate and get rid of this phenomenon
The symposium concluded with the head of the department granting the lecturer a letter of thanks and
appreciation for the valuable information, with the hope of continuing to discuss this subject in
subsequent lectures to educate students about what contributes to drug addiction to eliminating this
phenomenon that threatens society in all its aspects.

With the presence of the Head of the Architectural Engineering Department (Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Jawad
Kadhim), the Scientific Assistant (Assistant Professor Dr. Mufid Ihsan Al-Shouk), on Wednesday, and with
the efforts of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, a qualitative lecture was held
on 13 of December 2023 for the first-year students in the department. The lecture was delivered by
(Prof: Dr. Maher Awad Al-Amiri, a lecturer at Al-Nisour University College.
The lecture highlights the correct university behavior and its role in building the university student’s
personality.
The lecture aimed to educate students on how to develop themselves and avoid negative phenomena
that destroy youth and society as a whole, as well as how to eliminate cheating phenomenon to
enhance scientific competition spirit, seriousness, and diligence among students in a way that ensures
the provision of knowledge, especially in our technological era.
In one of its aspects, the lecture also included listening to the problems faced by students at the
beginning of their academic career at the university, discussing them, developing appropriate solutions,
and clarifying the rights and duties of the students following the university disciplinary law for students.
The symposium concluded by granting the lecturer a letter of thanks and appreciation from the head of
the department, hoping to communicate in delivering subsequent lectures to support and enhance the
educational and psychological aspects of our students.

degree in Architecture on her thesis (The Role Of Pioneers Architects In The Formation Of
Contemporary Iraqi Architectural Identity).
The discussion was held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, in the Department of Architectural
Engineering at the University of Technology.
The thesis focused on clarifying the academic Iraqi Academic Pioneers architects, keeping up with the
challenges and developments of their appearance, and managing to establish a new architectural
pattern within Iraqi architecture.
These architects were unknown then, their role, and their impact on the identity of Iraqi path
architecture at the time.
The research aimed to provide sufficient knowledge about the architectural trends of the pioneer
architects and how we can be inspired by them, and learn from their previous experience In dealing
with political, economic, social, and technological changes so that Iraqi architects can establish at
present the foundation for a current contemporary architecture in light of the changes that the
country is going through at present.
The thesis explained the launch of four architectural schools that were founded by the first generation
of architects, which are the contemporary Iraqi architectural identity cornerstones that can be
investigated at present to rift the gap and establish contemporary Iraqi architecture within its
national identity.

A graduate architect and her supervisors in the Department of Architecture were granted a
letter of thankfulness and appreciation by the President of the University of Technology on
Monday, 4th of December,2023.
The President of the University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Hassan Al-Ghaban, received
in his office the student Rand Safaa Al-Din from the Department of Architectural Engineering at
the University, in the presence of her supervisors, Prof. Dr. Bassem Hassan Al-Majidi and Prof.
Dr. Anwar Sobhi, where the student was given a letter of thankfulness and appreciation For her
participation in the International Schools of the World Architectural Competition (Tamayouz
Excellence Award), which was announced by the British University of Coventry, with the
participation of 147 countries and more than 100,000 male and female students.
Given that the project was among the top 20 projects in this competition, which is an important
achievement added to the achievements of the University of Technology, the department thanks and
highly appreciates the efforts, hoping that you will provide more contributions that will serve the
Department of Architectural Engineering and the University of Technology as a whole. May God grant

aspects, construction, and infrastructure for the exhibition halls in preparation for the start of the
second project “The Design of the International Cultural Center for Antiquities and Architectural
Heritage”, which focuses on creating a global attraction point that opens horizons for the exchange
and display of archaeological and heritage collections around the world and represents the
international museum system and those concerned with preservation and heritage globally.

Master Thesis Discussion Titled “External Cultural Spaces in the Riverfronts”

The Student (Istabraq Jassim Muhammad) at the Department of Architecture has been
granted a master's degree in Architecture on her thesis titled “External Cultural Spaces in the
Riverfronts”.
The discussion was held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, in the Department of Architectural
Engineering at the University of Technology.
The thesis focused on clarifying the importance of developing riverfronts in general and
cultural external spaces in particular. The research aimed to reveal riverfront development
approaches based on cultural outdoor space values. The categories of cultural, outdoor space
values have been embodied in (spatial, heritage, functional, social, aesthetic, and cultural
values; It included the riverfront development approach (with the ecological-socio-cultural
approach, the social and cultural development approach, the approach to preserving the
historical importance of the cultural outer space, and the approach to enriching the cultural
outer space).
The study concluded by explaining the difference in development approaches based on the
values of cultural outdoor spaces, as they were largely supportive of spatial and heritage
values, followed by social and aesthetic values, then cultural values, and to a lesser extent
functional values.

“Civilizational Resistance of Cities: The Old City of Mosul as a case study.

The research focused on the process of cultural resistance; Its causes, types,
principles, mechanisms, stages, dimensions, goals, and formulas.
The research aims to explore the role of the relationship between the heritage
building information modeling technology, its library, and model 3 (D-HBIM
presentation, The Assembly's memory levels, dimensions, and curricula in the
continuity of cultural memory, the achievement of cultural identity and the
strengthening of the identity and visibility of the place have brought its past to the
present, adapted and resilient to the future.
The thesis found the effectiveness of the methodology adopted in archiving and
disseminating cultural heritage places in general and in the city of Mosul in
particular and its possible adoption in the process of documentation and
preservation of cultural memory locally and internationally..

Master Thesis Discussion Architectural Design Branch Titled (The Role Of Semiotics In Creating The
Emotional Place, Airport Premises- A Case Study"
The Student ((Zainab Jassim Youssef Mansour)) at the Department of Architecture has been granted a
master's degree in Architecture on her thesis (The Role Of Semiotics In Creating The Emotional Place,
Airport Premises- A Case Study"
The discussion was held on Sunday, 3rd of December, 2023, in the Department of Architectural
Engineering at the University of Technology.
The thesis focused on clarifying the role of semiotics in developing passenger terminals to raise the
level of local and Arab airport premises to keep pace with international terminals.
The thesis aimed to provide a knowledge base on the role of semiotics in creating an emotional place
within passenger terminals, how it is applied to reduce the anxiety and tension of passengers inside
the passenger terminals, and the way that the stations could form a spatial identity that enhances the
country’s identity and acquaints visitors with the country’s history and culture.
The study came up with three semiotic dimensions for creating an emotional place in passenger
stations that can be invested at present to develop local and Arab airports to increase the economic
and cultural growth of the country.

Architectural Engineering - University of Technology.

The Architectural Engineering Department hosted On Monday, 4th of December, an introductory
symposium for Al-Ayn Social Care Foundation in Hall 1, in the presence of the Administrative Assistant
(Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Talib Hamid) in addition to faculty, staff, and students of the
department.
The symposium focused on the Al-Ayn Social Care Foundation's activity in supporting the orphans of
our Iraqi society, as well as clarifying the objectives and mechanisms of the entire organization’s work
and the services it provides for the grace of God.
