On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the master’s thesis by the researcher (Muthanna Mahmoud Hassan)
was discussed, entitled “Semiotic Design Strategies in Contemporary Local Architecture.” The thesis
aimed to clarify the concept of semiotics as well as clarify semiotic design strategies in contemporary
local architecture and their patterns at the level of significance of Formalism. The thesis concluded
that the semiotic strategy aims to create the contemporary architectural text and is seen at an
intellectual level related to the designer to express the societal cultural context, as architects tend to
adopt reading criteria related to the designer in terms of his critical A vision that participates with the
text patterns to structure and build human relations through its social impact and communication
with the recipient, which produces concepts in the light of his observations of events.

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the lecturer (Enas Ali Salman) participated in the
symposium entitled “Psychological and physical effects and combating violent extremism that
leads to terrorism,” which was held in the Al-Salam Hall in the Center for Continuing Education.
It is noteworthy that the symposium was held by the university presidency, represented by the
head of the Women’s Empowerment Unit (Assistant Professor Dr. Mona Taha Idris), in
cooperation with the Central Library, the Department of Administrative and Financial Affairs,
and the Center for Continuing Education. The lecture was given by both (Dr. Alaa Al-Qaisi) and
the director of the Research and Studies Center at the Ministry of Sports and Youth (Dr. Hussein
Ibrahim Aday). The symposium aimed to clarify the psychological and physical effects of

The (Lecturer Dr. Bilal Samir Ali), representing the Graduate Follow-up Unit, the lecturer (Assistant
Lecturer Enas Ali Salman), and some graduates of the Department of Architectural Engineering,
participated in the first conference on the automatic waste collection system in Iraq (AWCS). The
conference was held in the Gilgamesh Hall in the Babylon Hotel, on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. The
conference was organized by the companies RAWAQIM ALKHALEEJ, (greenx), (Landlocked Co.) and
sponsored by (Bayti Real Estate) and (Brick House). The conference focused on presenting the
innovative automatic waste collection system (URD) and clarifying the details of its components,
advantages, and role in educating Iraqi society regarding waste separation and recycling. The
conference also reviewed the applications of the system in various sectors, projects, and
opportunities available in the Iraqi urban future to support contemporary trends in designing

The Head of the Department of Architectural Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Jawad Kazem and the
Lecturer Dr. Ahmed Louay Ahmed / Head of the Architectural Design Branch, at the regular meeting of
the committee (correcting the project implementation process in Iraq using BIM technology), which was
held today, Wednesday, 02/21/2024, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council of
Ministers.
The meeting focused on discussing the mechanism for activating Building Information Modeling (BIM)
programs in Iraq.
This participation comes to enhance scientific and professional cooperation between government
sectors and university academic institutions in the field of implementing urban and infrastructure
projects, by promoting the activation of the culture of using Building Information Modeling (BIM)
programs in Iraq to improve project management and increase efficiency and quality in design and

On Thursday, February 22, 2024, the master’s thesis by the researcher (Tayseer Ihsan Jabbar), entitled
“Green Conservation Technology in Architecture,” was discussed. The thesis aimed to clarify the concept
of green conservation and the extent to which technological progress contributes to greening
preservation buildings in a way that increases their performance and efficiency without compromising
their value. And its original characteristics. The study was able to extract a green preservation strategy
and adapt it in light of the Iraqi Green Code, which essentially excluded buildings of historical and
heritage value. The study concluded with a local approach to greening Iraqi preservation buildings that
balances both preservation indicators and greening indicators based on contemporary technological
capabilities and was applied to a building. The Baghdadi Museum to confirm credibility within the Iraqi
context.
