On Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, the doctoral dissertation defense was conducted in the Department
of Architecture for the doctoral candidate Wassan Maki Mohammed, titled "Eugenics:
Envisioning the Architecture of the Future." The dissertation explored the research approach
between cognitive sciences, presenting the cognitive blending between the fields of genetics in
the selection of genes in living organisms and the field of architecture to reach multiple futuristic
scenarios for prospective architecture. This was based on the concept of "Eugenics," which
involves the idea of selecting architectural genes suitable for inheritance into the architecture of
tomorrow, to achieve a virtuous city architecture. This was accomplished through extrapolating
the past to analyze the present and envisioning the future using the Future Wheel technique to
monitor the series of correlations between the phenomenon and its direct and indirect
relationships.
An external examiner from the Department of Architecture at the University of Bahrain,
Kingdom of Bahrain (Dr. Islam Hamdi Al-Ghanimi), was hosted remotely via an online platform
to discuss the research.
The examination committee consisted of:
Prof. Dr. Abdullah Saadoun Salman - Chairman
Prof. Dr. Sabih Lufta Farhan - Member
Dr. Islam Hamdi Al-Ghanimi - Member
Asst. Prof. Dr. Mufeed Ehsan Shok - Member
Asst. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Khudair Abbadi - Member
